Invasive Acacia Tree Species Affect Instream Litter Decomposition Through Changes in Water Nitrogen Concentration and Litter Characteristics

چکیده
Non-native nitrogen-fixing Acacia species have been invading riparian ecosystems worldwide, potentially threatening stream communities that strongly depend on allochthonous litter. We examined the effects of invasion native deciduous temperate forests by litter decomposition and associated fungal decomposers in streams. Litter (Alnus glutinosa Quercus robur) invasive (Acacia melanoxylon) were enclosed fine-mesh bags immersed three invaded streams, for 14–98 days. rates, biomass, aquatic hyphomycete sporulation rates higher than likely due to water nitrogen concentration found Alnus had richness, probably because they soft rich. robur also high but lower Al. glutinosa, polyphenol carbon:nitrogen ratio. melanoxylon most it was very tough. Thus, varied order: > Q. Ac. melanoxylon. The community structure differed between among species, suggesting microbes sensitive characteristics. Overall, increases alterations characteristics promoted may affect activity microbial decomposers, instream decomposition, thus altering functioning ecosystems.

The objectives of this study were to examine litter, decomposition, net mineralization and microclimate by two leguminous species planted for the restoration of degraded area. The total annual litter fall in A. mangium site was 11.44±0.59 (mean ± standard error) t ha -1 yr -1 and A. auriculiformis site was 8.72±0.57 t ha -1 yr -1 . Decomposition constant (k) of A. mangium and A. auriculiformis ...

This study aims to evaluate the impacts of changes in litter quantity under simulated N deposition on litter decomposition, CO2 release, and soil C loss potential in a larch plantation in Northeast China. We conducted a laboratory incubation experiment using soil and litter collected from control and N addition (100 kg ha-1 year-1 for 10 years) plots. Different quantities of litter (0, 1, 2 and...

The global terrestrial heterotrophic respiration is estimated at about 60 Gt C yr-1 (Schlesinger, 1991). Plant litter produced during senescence processes and plant residues left on site after harvest operations are the primary substrate for heterotrophic respiration in plant-soil ecosystems. They constitute both of aboveground and belowground plant parts. Substrate quality, together with the p...
متن کاملWater, Rather than Temperature, Dominantly Impacts How Soil Fauna Affect Dissolved Carbon and Nitrogen Release from Fresh Litter during Early Litter Decomposition
Longstanding observations suggest that dissolved materials are lost from fresh litter through leaching, but the role of soil fauna in controlling this process has been poorly documented. In this study, a litterbag experiment employing litterbags with different mesh sizes (3 mm to permit soil fauna access and 0.04 mm to exclude fauna access) was conducted in three habitats (arid valley, ecotone ...
